Groovy Girl taught herself the back stitch while making a pillow for my husband on Father's Day. This week she was looking for something to do so I suggested she try red work. Here is the result. I'm VERY proud of her! She is figuring it out as she goes. That's the way this girl rolls. She wants to do it herself or not do it at all. She is planning a quilt for Baby Doll. Lucky Baby Doll! We all want to make stuff for her!!

I'm hoping to try some embroidery soon too - haven't done it since I was a Girl Scout. (I barely remember Girl Scouts, if that's any indication of how long it's been.)

Funny you should mention the Girl Scouts. Groovy Girl began scouting this year in third grade. She like it.
I hope SO MUCH Groovy Girl continues enjoying sewing and embroidery! It seems to relax her (she's my wild child). My oldest tried sewing but is mostly interested in books and I seem to only read how-to books now. She does pick really good ones though, so I will let her slide...

Lucky you! A crafty kid. Neither of mine are into art stuff, though daughter shares my love of lens. Son - nada. I have to wait for grandbabies to reveal....

I'm keeping my fingers crossed. GG (I like that, reminds me of Gigi) is my right brained artist child, so just maybe I'll have someone in the house who understands why thread and fabric are fabulous...

Wonderful stitching, Groovy Girl, and redwork is my favorite. It's hard to believe this is your first embroidery project.
My mother taught me to sew and embroider when I was about your age, and I still enjoy doing both after more than 50 years. You are lucky like I was to have a talented mother to help you.
I think it's so wonderful that you're going to make a quilt for Baby Doll -- I am excited to see a post about that! When my sister, Sally, was a teenager, she made shorts and tops for me in the summer -- for every outfit Sally made for me, my mother would buy material for Sally to make an outfit for herself. A few years later, my mother made the same deal with me and my younger sister, Mary.
