I was never good
at Cat's Cradle.
I couldn't get the string to do
what I wanted it to do
and if string could mock you,
that 3 ft loop surely did...
Is that part of the reason
I am so string/thread/yarn
obsessed as an adult?
Dunno.
But when I am able to loop
400+ yards
of wonderful yarn
into a lace shawlette,
I can't help but feel
that I'm having
the last laugh.

This is a really nice piece I know how to knit and takes me a while, I do tatting mostly, so what level would you call this and where is this pattern located it really is cute very tempting for me! Do you think I should try?
ReplyDeleteCarollyn,
ReplyDeleteI got this pattern off of Ravelry a couple of months ago. It is called the Holden Shawlette and the link is below the second picture of the post. I downloaded the pattern when it was free, so my version is the small size which takes one skein of fingering.
It wasn't a difficult pattern (yarn overs, knit two together). If you haven't done much lace knitting, I would suggest running a life line occasionally. I followed the written instructions rather than the chart - the pattern has both. The picot edging was the most challenging aspect for me, but it was pretty fun once I got going.
If you like the pattern, I think you should go for it. I'd be glad to help if you run into any problems. It's not free anymore, but Ravelry has A LOT of free patterns to choose from.

A beautiful shawl - you have indeed conquered string!
ReplyDeleteOkay, I will check it out and look at the other patterns too. I have lots to think on, I ordered a pattern off of eBay once and I'll take a second look at that one too. I really do like the edging on this one it makes it more tempting to do.
ReplyDeleteI also have been following a "Russianfibers" blog it's very interesting to look at there work, it is surprisingly very airy and theirs has some similarities to your pattern. Thanks so much
