and all these years later,
we still do...
This is a botched attempt at a well known heart (which I will add the link for as quickly as I find my copy of the pattern) and the beginning round of a larger doily (hopefully) to come.
Update: The heart is actually Li'l Heart by Birgit Phelps (http://webspace.webring.com/people/qb/birgit_ph/lilheart.html).

Am I reading between the lines correctly? Happy anniversary!
ReplyDeleteThis is such a lovely piece!!
ReplyDeleteAnd where did you get the silhouette? or is it of you and your husband? I like it! Let me know what the pattern is. Thanks in advance. Robert, in northern Iowa.
ReplyDeleteHappy Anniversary, I presume. Congratulations!
ReplyDeleteAnd time to tat something so cute - can't wait to see the doily emerge.
Just came acrossed the heart on Trayna's Tatterings and Natterings. Is it her Wee Heart? Robert, in northern (wet) Iowa.
ReplyDeleteThank you! Yes indeed - MANY moons ago, we got married.
ReplyDeleteRobert - I got the silhouette from "Classic Clip Art, thousands of copyright-free images." I photographed it, took it into PhotoShop to clean it up and layered it over a second photo I took of my tatting. I'll try to dig up the pattern either from my folder of printed patterns or deep in the recesses of my mind. I've just lost the name for now...

Hey Robert!
ReplyDeleteI figured it out! I was pretty sure it was Birgit Phelps heart, I just couldn't find the right one. It was Li'l Heart and here is the link: http://webspace.webring.com/people/qb/birgit_ph/lilheart.html
I'll have to go check out Trayna's heart as well - you can never have too many heart patterns!
:) Ann
Happy Anniversary Ann!
ReplyDeleteLovely composition! And of course, it displays just right hint of cryptic craftiness!
Fox : )
Wishing you and Mr. NN a Happy Anniversary! Your tatted piece is lovely (botched? . . . it looks perfect to me!) and so sweet with the silhouette. I hope you had a wonderful celebration.
ReplyDeletethis is beautiful, Happy anniversary:)
ReplyDeleteAnd wishes for many more Happy Anniversaries together!
ReplyDeleteYou've been so generous in answering everyone's questions, but I have one more! That is a photo of your tatting? It's so clear, I thought you affixed the actual tatting on the card.
ReplyDeleteI put photos of my tatting on cards, and am always amazed when tatters will send ACTUAL tatting (such as snowflakes) with their Christmas cards! I don't have PhotoShop so I don't know if I could do this 'layering' with software I have.
This is SO nicely done, even though you say the heart is 'imperfect'! Thanks for the link!
Hi Kathy!
ReplyDeleteYes, it's just a photo I put together. There isn't any real card. My husband saw it on the computer and asked if it was for our anniversary and was very pleased when I said yes. I got an "I love you" and a hug without even having to print it out! :)
I don't know about other programs, but PhotoShop (I have Elements 6.0) allows you to merge photos by deleting the background of one of them (in this case, the silhouette) and creating a layer that "floats" above the other picture. If I am going to do something like this, I often will photograph the object on a high contrast, solid background because it makes it very easy to delete the background color later. Adobe has a "magic wand" which lets you choose areas of color to delete or otherwise manipulate.
I just laid my tatting on a piece of pink paper and photographed it separately. In fact, because the brown piece of tatting is part of a large doily (hopefully) to come, the shuttle and ball threads are on the photo I took. I PhotoShopped them out to keep the picture pretty.
Can you tell that I'm a Photoshop junkie?
:) Ann
Thanks so much for the excellent explanation! It's fascinating that you could 'hide' the threads! It's amazing what can be done with digital photography. I've dabbled a bit with photo software, but still find it kind of intimidating!
ReplyDeleteIn my last comment, I forgot to congraulate you on your anniversary!
Very pretty! Happy Anniversary (belatedly)! ♥ the tatting is lovely and so fitting!
