The Happiest Cluny Leaves on Earth

If Disney World is the "Happiest Place on Earth" then these must have been the happiest cluny leaves on earth!

Last week we loaded up the family and went to Disney! A good time was had by all and in between the rides and shows I even squeezed in a little tatting time!

One afternoon I sat on a bench in Hollywood Studios and practiced cluny leaves with a view of a giant Mickey sorcerer's hat,

and a sleeping Princess Baby Doll,

while the rest of my family took in a movie about Mr. Disney.

Now mind you, these were not my first cluny attempts! I had two days of intermittent practice during the car ride TO the happiest place on earth. Before we set out on our trip I had printed Mimi Dillman's excellent tutorial on cluny leaves which I found via Tatting Chic. Tatting Chic has a great list of tutorials and she adds to it all the time. The photographs in Mimi's tutorial helped me out immensely and after a few (I don't care to count) awkward attempts, I started to get the hang of it. It's still touch and go as to whether I will turn out a nicely shaped cluny or a dud, but the odds for a good one are getting better. The next step will be trying to incorporate them into a pattern... We'll see how that goes...

  1. I think your leaves look perfect and your sweet sleeping princess reminds me so much of our times at Disneyland when the kids were little. I'm like you -- using every opportunity to get in a little stitching.

  2. Hi Martha!
You are so nice, thank you! We really enjoy going to Disney and have many happy memories there also.

My husband has gotten used to me pulling out sewing or tatting at every opportunity, but I think I surprised even him this trip. I had my shuttle and thread in the bag we took to the park and I'm pretty sure he noticed during the bag search going into the park by the silly smile on his face and his "no comment". He's a good man.

  3. OH that is what those things are called. . . So glad you brought that to my attention. I have seen those and wanted to know how to make them. Yours look great! Sounds like a great time in Disney World!

  4. Thank you Enlightened by Angels! We DID have a great time! Glad to be able to help you put a name to the face, so to speak. I've printed out a couple simple patterns with cluny leaves and am looking forward to giving them a try... and then probably another try... and then another... and so on...

  6. Hi Tatting Chic!
I saw that you are no longer topsy-turvy! I'm VERY happy because we would all miss you! (How are you doing that upside down typing?)

Thank you on the clunies. I am almost done with laundry after the trip and hope to load up my shuttle and give a motif with clunies a go.
